Dear Somerset Families,
We are entering unprecedented times and although we have plans in place, everything seems to be evolving daily. At this time, we have prepared individualized materials that we would like students to work on while they are at home. Our goal, over the next two weeks, is to have students practice material they have previously learned to prevent regression of skills and keep them connected with their teachers and learning.
This is a challenging situation for young children to understand and how they feel about it will be a direct reflection of how the adults around them react. As caregivers, we need to reassure our children that there are many adults caring about them and working together to keep them safe. It is also important to maintain a daily routine during this time at home. As part of this routine, we are recommending that students engage in learning activities/opportunities at least a couple hours each day. Time spent reading, and being read to, is the very best way to increase student’s literacy skills, oral vocabulary, and content knowledge, and families are encouraged to set aside large chunks of time to read each day.
The district will be delivering meals to families who sign up. The meal pack delivered will include breakfast and lunch. All children under the age of 18 qualify for a meal. Please call the school at 938-4770 to sign up or use the form on the district website/facebook. Families only need to order once to receive meals throughout this closure.
Our school buildings will be closed to the public during this time. The Somerset Elementary team would like to stay connected! If you haven’t already done so, please consider joining our private FaceBook page, Somerset Elementary School Families Group. Please feel free to contact me by phone, 938-4770 or email email@example.com and keep the lines of communication open. We have Panther P.R.I.D.E, and we will work through this together!
